Reloadable Artillery Shells
Reloadable Artillery Shells

If your philosophy is “go big or go home,” artillery shell fireworks are just what you need to stay out late and put on a quite a show. Artillery shell fireworks are propelled high into the air from a tube that stays on the ground. This tube is loaded with a pyrotechnic cartridge along with a burst charge and internal time fuse. The result of this assemblage is a sky-bound shell that bursts out into one of many beautiful firework creations.  These shells are basically the same thing being used by the professionals at your city fireworks display – they have just been “shrunk down” for consumers to use safely.  As far as the size and effect of artillery shells on the market, you can find fireworks to fit every situation and circumstance from a neighborhood party to the town’s Fourth of July celebration. While the artillery shell assortments may be smaller than their professional-use cousins, the various and assorted effects including single, double and triple break special effects will still impress everyone viewing your display! The tubes that the artillery shells are loaded in can be either single use or reloadable. Single use tubes are pre-packed with the explosive powders and are not safe to use again after igniting. An assortment pack of artillery shells might come with one tube and 12 cartridges to fire into the sky. Reloadable tubes (mortar tubes) are made of sturdier materials and can be refilled, according to the manufacturer’s directions, with extra firework shells. Depending on the type of artillery shells you are purchasing, tubes are made of cardboard, fiberglass or high density polyethylene. Your artillery shells need to be loaded into your mortar tube with the fuse coming out of the top of the tube.  Always keep all body parts away from the top of the mortar tube!  Then light the fuse and step away and watch as the shells launch high into the sky and burst with loud and colorful effects!  If you are looking for something more disposable, there are single use artillery shells on the market that are good for just one use. When lighting your artillery shells and other fireworks, always follow the laws about shooting off fireworks in your specific location that are designed for public safety. Also, for personal safety, always follow the manufacturer’s directions for lighting your artillery shells.  Before lighting your reloadable shells, it is a good idea to brace the tube with dirt, sand, rocks or other substances for stability – or better yet, attach them to a board.  When lighting the fuse, make sure you are not looking down over the tube unless you want a fiery projectile flying into your face. While the tubes that the shells are loaded into can be used again and again, make sure that you don’t allow them to over-heat, (give them a rest) which can allow them to fail!

Firecrackers
Firecrackers

Firecrackers may be small in size, but they pack a loud pop. Technically, a firecracker is a small explosive designed with one primarily goal in mind – making a loud bang. The incidental the thrill of lighting the fuse, the smell of smoke and the quick flash of light are all just added pleasures for the firecracker aficionado! Firecrackers are sold in a range of different formats to suit the needs of the customer. Often the fuses are braided together and the resulting strings are sold in packs or bricks. “Bricks” will contain individual “packs” of crackers. Common sizes are 80/16’s or 20/100’s. A brick of 80/16’s will contain 80 packs with 16 braided firecrackers in each pack. 20/100’s will have 20 packs with 100 crackers in each. Belts and rolls are also available for those folks who really want to bang it up. In quantities of 500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000 and even rolls of 16,000 or more, you’ll be poppity-pop-pop-popping all night long if you light them one at a time – but the traditional Chinese way to light these long strings is to hang them high and light them from the bottom of the string. Children who are old enough to be participating in the fun, should always be under the supervision of an adult.

Novelty Fireworks

Novelty Fireworks

Novelty fireworks are absolutely – well, novel! If you are looking for some good, wholesome entertainment, firework novelties will help get the party started. From sparklers to smoke bombs, these entry-level pyrotechnic items are the perfect prelude to a bigger firework show. These great-for-all-ages diversions are a good way to get the whole family involved in fireworks. Sparklers are a top pick in firework novelties; you probably even have fond memories from your childhood of swirling sparklers around in your backyard. Sparklers are made from bamboo sticks or metal skewers that are available in a variety of lengths, typically from 10-inches all the way up to an impressively long 36-inches. If children will be using the sparkler novelties, the wooden sticks are a better choice as to avoid a burn by the metal rod. Sparklers are the only variety of fireworks that are officially meant to be held, but only by adults and older children who understand the inherent risks – the tips can reach a temperature of 1000 degrees. Other popular novelties are smoke bombs,a firework item that emits large quantities of smoke when lit. Smoke bombs are available in a variety of smoke colors, red, green, yellow, purple and more. For safety, light these fun novelties in an area free of flammables and also on a concrete, dirt or rock surface --- sometimes the dyes stain the ground. Little military fans will love the smoke bombs that are shaped to look like grenades! Trucks, tanks, jets and other vehicles are also common firework novelties. They are designed to scoot across the ground via the thrust caused by the tiny firework fountain that looks like an impressive exhaust stream but is actually the effect that provides “power.” Often, these “moving” novelties have small, sensitive wheels that can get snagged on a sidewalk – so to make sure your vehicle really gets going, make sure it is on a completely flat surface. After these novelties have been used and the parent checks to make sure there is no leftover pyrotechnic residue, these items often find their way as “toys” for the kids to play with for the rest of the evening. Other novelties include snap-pops which are like fuseless little firecrackers that make a “pop” sound when thrown on the ground. There are no visual effects, only the gun-like sound that boys love. Other top picks include strobe lights, crackling balls and special powder you can toss in a campfire to make it change colors – the kids will think you are magic! Confetti poppers are a real blast for any celebration; pull a string on these novelty items and a little gunpowder pops open a small case filled with colorful strings of confetti. Our personal favorites are the Chickens that willl blow up a balloon and, of course, everyone loves the Pooping Puppies!

Parachute Fireworks

Parachute fireworks can be narrowed down into two major categories – those for day-time use and those for night-time use. Within each of these categories, you can choose from single shots or multiple shots. For example, a single parachute for daytime use launches a tube into the air where it bursts open at maximum ascent and floats down with the opened parachute – one, two or more chutes depending on how the firework is designed. Some single shot parachutes can be quite large, even with a chute diameter of 40-inches or larger! A multi-shot parachute to send up during the day is filed with a grouping of tubes that can fill the air with 10, 20 even a 100 different parachutes. The effect of these multi-shots is really neat because it looks like it is “raining” down different colors. Always drawing big claps from the kids, some parachutes also have a colored smoke bomb in the tube that ignites during flight. Many also have a plastic soldier attached – so the kids will have a toy to remember the firework celebration with. Unlike daytime parachutes which don’t have any sparkling effects, the night-time varieties typically feature a pyrotechnic composition such as a star or strobe in it. This special effect begins to burn brightly after the firework is launched and begins its descent. Because children love this kind of firework, a parent needs to supervise every aspect of the process – even including picking up a fallen tube which could still be hot. It is also imperative to follow the laws about shooting off fireworks in your specific jurisdiction, the regulations can vary widely. These laws are designed for your own safety, your loved one’s safety and the general public as well.

Rockets

Rockets are well-known aerial style fireworks that fly up into the sky and impress bystanders with colors, flashes of light, impressive noise and other features. You will find them offered in a range of colors, reports (bangs), flashes and other effects. The larger the rocket, the higher you can expect it to fly & the larger the effect will be when it reaches it’s highest point (the apex). A rocket should never be lit in the hands; it needs to be launched by placing the long stick into a pipe—then lighting the fuse for a rapid take-off. There are really two shows to enjoy when lighting rockets – watching it’s tail in flight – then the effects released at the end of it’s flight. Watch for colors, crackles, reports and maybe even a ring or smiley face!

Roman Candles

Simply put, Roman candles are fireworks fashioned from long, cylinder-shaped tubes that shoot out colored balls along with a shower of sparks into the air. A time-honored favorite when it comes to consumer fireworks, these candles are sure to light up your next event – whether that is a beach bonfire, a Fourth of July celebration or a New Year’s Eve party. Roman candles come in an array of effects including various colors, noises and special effects such as crackles, tails, changing colors and more. Most roman candles are packed with 10 stars (shots) per firework although there are versions that deviate from this norm with more or less. Roman candles can be bought in sets of various quantity and assortment. Most folks are tempted to shoot their Roman candles by holding them and pointing skyward. However, in the instance that a Roman candle is bent, crushed or otherwise malfunctions, the stars inside can get jammed and cause the whole thing to blow up through the side. Because of these safety issues, manufacturer and fireworks expert advises consumers to stabilize these explosives on the ground before lighting the fuse. You can stick them into sand, secure in a pile of rocks or even use a tube used for your artillery shells. We have a large assortment of roman candles from many manufacturers. Stay tuned for individual listings!

Sparklers
Sparklers

The name given to Sparklers says it all – they really do sparkle! This type of firework has long been a pleaser at parties, weddings, parades and other festive celebrations. Once lighted, sparklers are designed to give off a fountain of sparks from the burning tip. As the only type of firework that is meant to be held by the user, sparklers are a hands-on way to add some exciting entertainment to any event. Sparklers come in several different varieties that revolve around their core composition, length and color. The core of sparklers can be made from either a wooden or bamboo type stick or from a metal core. Because sparklers made with a metal rod do not completely burn away, users must be careful to not touch the red-hot metal – the temperatures can reach over 1000 degrees. Sparklers with a wooden core burn away as the sparkles move down the stick; this reduces the risk of getting burned by red-hot metal but also causes a risk of smoldering ashes falling. The length of sparklers is what determines, for the most part, how long they will burn. Available in a range of sizes with 10-inch, 20-inch and 36-inch being the most common, all sparkler fireworks burn from the tip and end a safe distance away from the hand. Ten inch sparklers burn for approximately 45 seconds, 20-inch sparklers for approximately 2 minutes and 36-inch sparklers for about 4 minutes. If you are planning any photo opportunities using sparklers, it is good to keep these burn times in mind. The basic color choice in sparklers is silver or gold. However, you can purchases sparklers in an array of single colors such as red, green and blue or multi-color sparklers that are created with distinct burning phases; for example, 20 seconds may be red sparks, 20 seconds may be gold, and so on. If used according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, sparklers are typically a safe firework. If children are participating in the fun, adult supervision should be provided. Other precautions to take include always using them outdoors, holding as far away from the body as possible, not standing near flammable materials, and do not touch the hot tip. Also, it is a good idea to dunk your sparklers in water to make sure they are completely extinguished. We have a large variety of sparklers from many manufacturers.

Wheels
Wheels

Wheels are sold with a nail to tack them up onto a verticle surface, such as a power pole or fence post. Make sure that you don't nail it too tightly or it won't spin! And spin it will - often changing colors and with screaming whistles! Happy Lamps are a horizontal wheel - it is sold with a string to tie it up to a tree branch or maybe even a clothesline. After spinning, and spinning, and spinning (don't get too dizzy watching it!) it will pop open into a colorful Chinese Lantern!

Spinners
Spinners

If you are looking for a wonderful and whirly addition to your celebration, Spinners make an illuminating impression and keep the firework fun going around and around. Also known as “ground spinners,” these fast and furious fireworks spin around randomly on the ground – all while shooting out colorful sparks and flames for the delight of bystanders. Whether for birthday parties, New Year’s Eve shindigs or other night-time gatherings, have your guests stand in a wide perimeter around your display and watch these fun items go wild! It should go without saying that you’ll need a big, clear area to safely set off your spinners. But we’ll say it again; make sure that you have plenty of room and there are no people or flammable obstacles nearby. To start the fun, simply light the fuse with a punk and step back quickly while it unleashes random twirling and swirling of fireworks like found in the Ground Bloom Flowers, Jumping Jacks, Dizzy Snakes and other popular ground fireworks. Some spinners do come off the ground; for example, Helicopters, have a small flight feature that uses slanted wings to push the airflow down during rotation and thus raise the firework upward into the air. Usually near the end of spinning, these items explode with a colorful star or other pyrotechnic effect. When lighting spinners and other fireworks, for your personal safety and the well-being of those you love, it is imperative to follow the manufacturer’s directions for lighting the pyrotechnic elements in your display. Even the most tame-looking “kiddie” fireworks can cause injury if they are mishandled or undergo a rare malfunction.
